Sometimes your Agents are on an operation and realize that they don't have the necessary skills to solve a problem at hand. In such cases a generous Handler can provide a convenient Friendly with the required skill set. In this post I have written up five Friendlies with Science background. But beware, each of them has a secret that could turn them from an useful asset into a dangerous liability.
Sergey Rybalkin |
Sergey Rybalkin is a PhD student in the CMU Computer Science department. He specializes in cybersecurity and is a proficient hacker. As a team captain of the university hacking team he has won the DEFCON Capture-the-Flag competition multiple times. His recent research includes automated exploit detection using machine learning algorithms. He could help the Agents by answering their CS-related question, by putting them into contact with a black hat hacker, or even by performing a hack himself.
His secret: GRU-SV8 is aware that Rybalkin had contact with Delta Green in the past and is now pressuring him to report any further contact. Rybalkin fears for his family back in Russia and complies. The Agents might soon notice that GRU-SV8 agents are tailing them or that Rybalkin has installed spyware on their devices.

Rebecca Bradshaw |
Rebecca Bradshaw works as a post-doc in the Neuroscience department of Johns Hopkins University. She researches the connectome of the human brain, how to model it mathematically and the impact of disease on neurobiology. Aside from providing knowledge about neurology and biology in general, she can also give the Agents access to a state-of-the-art biology lab.
Her secret: During an earlier consulting job for Delta Green she had access to several unnatural specimens (e.g., an Amante seeder from Lover in the Ice). Fascinated by it, she took one of them for further studying and kept it secret from DG. However, this specimen is only dormant, not dead. In time it will escape and wreak havoc.

Saul Lieberman |
Saul Lieberman is a professor of particle physics and works at Fermilab, on the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). His team studies the formation of black holes via detection of neutrinos that get released during a supernova. When he is not a Fermilab he can be found at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in South Dakota. He can answer any questions about physics, especially particle physics and astrophysics. He also has access to a particle accelerator.
His secret: During an experiment Lieberman’s team has collected a set of anomalous and paradoxical data points that hint at the existence of Azathoth, the Nuclear Chaos. Most of the team choose to ignore this dataset and write it off as measurement errors. But due to Lieberman’s involvement with Delta Green he suspects that more is going on. His ongoing research into this phenomenon has resulted in SAN loss and the development of an undiagnosed mental disorder (Obsession).

Emily Nguyen |
Emily Nguyen is a young and exceptionally gifted mathematician. She works as an assistant professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. A former child prodigy, she is rumored to be the next recipient of the Fields Medal. She specializes in algebraic geometry and its connections to number theory, but she has wide and deep knowledge of several branches of mathematics. She is very skilled at recognizing patterns and deciphering codes.
Her secret: Emily came into contact with the Laqueus Equation when she was twelve years old. Thankfully Delta Green was able to intervene before she could solve it. She was warned to never look into this again. She did as she was told, but a nagging feeling in the back of her head still remains. But one of these days she won’t be able to help herself and return to the Laqueus Equation. If she were to post a solution on arXiv or her widely-read research blog it would be a catastrophe.

Lucas Hartmann |
Lucas Hartmann is a senior researcher at the UC Berkeley chemistry department. His field of study is organic chemistry, more specifically the synthesization of novel compounds with potential pharmaceutical applications. He is an incredibly valuable asset for Delta Green, not only because of his knowledge of chemistry, but also due to his access to chemicals and his ability to synthesize new ones.
His secret: Hartmann is in deep debt due to some risky trades on the stock market. He tries to get out of it by manufacturing and selling drugs. However, he is not an experienced criminal and will get caught sooner or later. He might try to save his ass by ratting out the Agents.
